What is Aquatic Therapy?

Aquatic therapy is a unique treatment technique that utilizes a warm water environment to enhance your child's functional abilities. The therapist uses the properties of the water to enhance a child's therapy program, while providing a fun and soothing environment to promote your child's independence.
Aquatic therapy can be a beneficial supplement to land-based physical and occupational therapy. It uses safe and efficient methods to achieve your child's goals. The water offers a gentle resistance, which increases strength and enhances sensory feedback and learning. In addition, the water supports muscles while children work on balance and posture. Aquatic therapy is an effective way to address many types of conditions, including;  sensory, neurological, and musculoskeletal differences.

How Can My Child Get Started?

Prior to receiving aquatic therapy, patients will be evaluated and seen in the clinic to develop their individualized aquatic program.

A physician referral is required for the initial evaluation. Plan on arriving 15 minutes early with your referral for therapy, proof of current insurance, list of current medications, new patient paperwork, and any other pertinent medical records.

Please call our office to learn more about scheduling an occupational or physical therapy evaluation.
